THE OPPORTUNITY | HR&A’s Housing Practice is rapidly growing its housing fund and transaction work, which involves helping clients structure funds, develop investment strategies, identify partners and execute transactions. Over the past two years, HR&A has facilitated the deployment of over $1 billion in housing investments from local governments and impact investors across the county.
This position will primarily support the design and implementation of affordable housing funds sponsored by local governments and impact investors including Amazon’s Housing Equity Fund, as well as structuring individual transactions on behalf of landowners and developers.
THE PRACTICE | HR&A’s Housing Practice works at all levels of the housing ecosystem. We create housing plans and strategies based on local needs and priorities. We design and implement solutions, from inclusionary zoning policies to affordable housing investment funds. And we underwrite and close housing transactions on behalf of public and private sector clients. This range of work, from planning to dealmaking, makes us better at designing policies and local housing plans that achieve their goals in practice and at integrating public incentives into individual projects. THE ROLE | HR&A’s Housing Practice is seeking a Senior Analyst, Data Science and Analytics, to support the rapid growth of our digital services offerings. This role can be based in our New York City, Washington, DC, Los Angeles, Dallas, Atlanta, or Raleigh office.
Senior Analysts are mid-level professionals with 5-8 years of professional experience who own the substance of our client work products. As a Senior Analyst focused on Data Science and Analytics, you will have the opportunity to have high impact across numerous projects and build the capacities of our clients nationally, as well as to continually build your skills in complex data analytics, visualization, and web development.
Responsibilities: The Data Science and Analytics Senior Analyst will be primarily responsible for conducting complex data and geospatial analysis to integrate and improve local, government, and proprietary datasets; develop compelling data visualizations to tell narratives to clients; and measuring and analyzing data and key economic and social indicators.
Day-to-day tasks range from procuring, managing, developing, and analyzing large datasets; developing interactive data visualizations; supporting project teams in the development of custom, web-based analytics dashboards; developing new data systems and tools to improve our consulting work; and developing and managing new, self-directed projects that advance our mission and our clients’ goals.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- Proficiency with GIS required; experience conducting geospatial, vicinity/buffer, site suitability, socio-economic, and demographic analysis using Geopandas preferred
- Experience developing clear and captivating data visualizations for a variety of audiences
- Proficiency with cleaning, manipulating, and merging public, proprietary, and internal data sets for analysis
- Proficiency with Python preferred; with experience in using publicly available APIs to build web-based dashboards and tools.
- Experience with census data, PUMS data, and other economic data required.
- Three to five years of relevant professional experience (for Analysts; five to eight years of experience for Senior Analysts)
- Bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred) with a focus on data science/analytics, geographic information science/analytics, urban planning/design/data, regional science/analytics, architecture, economics, business, public policy, real estate, or other related fields
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated capacity for leadership, critical thinking, and creativity
- Experience working on and managing fast-paced, collaborative teams and projects, including scoping, structuring, creating, and reviewing deliverables
- Ability to work across assignments, including managing multiple project workstreams and deadlines
- Familiarity with strategic planning processes, project management tools, and data-driven analytical approaches
COMPENSATION | The annual salary range for this position is $101,000 to 114,500 plus the opportunity for a year-end bonus. Where an offer falls inside the pay range is dependent on experience. We offer competitive compensation packages, based on qualifications and experience. We are an employee-owned company, meaning you will have the opportunity to benefit from the firm’s growth over time through participation in our Employee Stock Options Plan. Each year, the firm will contribute funds to this long-term wealth-building account and may make contributions to other retirement accounts. We also provide a comprehensive benefits package that goes well beyond coverage of 90-95% of healthcare premiums, dental and vision coverage.
